New York Trilogy Book Covers

This series of books emphasizes the manipulation of something natural to become something unlike itself. Throughout the book the characters are introduced, and then as events progress their personas become more ambiguous. They begin to blend and the reader is unsure whether they exist independent of each other or have become the same character. Auster centers his books in his belief in Jacques Derrida’s deconstructive thought — the idea that a novel can have many meanings and themes yet to be discovered until another person reveals one.
